Blade Productions – Theatre at the cutting edge TEAROOM A Daytime Play To be performed in a tearoom with the audience at tables by
This play gives the audience the experience of being in a tearoom and having full permission to listen in on other peoples conversations! The audience themselves create the sound and atmosphere of a real tearoom, as they also partake of morning coffee or afternoon tea whilst surrounding the three tables where the action is taking place in their midst - bringing the whole experience to life. The unthreatening ordinariness of the tearoom belies (and encourages) the important and revealing conversations that are had by the customers. Through discovery and loss, strength and weakness, and through an exploration of how we tend to love, characters are brought to a place of re-examining themselves and their relationships. This re-examination leads to a redefinition of who they are and what they want from life and their relationships. These themes, of how we love and how we can redefine ourselves, echo throughout the play; weaving through the characters’ very different lives and stories. Connecting them all is their pursuit (or inability) to stretch themselves beyond what they have believed is expected or acceptable.
