ABOUT BLADE PRODUCTIONS

– Theatre at the cutting edge
Blade Productions has been created to offer the public innovative, high quality, touring productions of exciting plays, both classic and modern.

It also offers a package of Workshops and performances for schools and colleges.

The founder of Blade, Denise Mallender, directed The Merchant of Venice for Brownsea Open Air Theatre in summer 2008, to great acclaim. Her previous local productions include a highly successful Romeo and Juliet for BOAT ASHORE! in January 2007, which toured seven venues; including daytime workshops and an evening performance for a local school. She also directed Much Ado About Nothing (2006) and Twelfth Night (2001) both for Brownsea Open Air Theatre.

Other local productions have been, The Crucible (2000) Oh What a Lovely War! (2003) and two pantomimes for Castle Players at Lytchett Matravers.

Denise trained at Bath and The Central School, London. After many years acting, directing plays and teaching English and Theatre Studies in Buckinghamshire and Northants, Denise has returned to Dorset and continues to work in Education and the theatre.
During her time in Milton Keynes she directed a wide range of plays; the most notable being a Community production of The Mysteries for Milton Keynes, which she adapted from the Medieval Mystery Cycles and presented in the newly-built Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Central MK.

The actors in Blade Productions are among the most experienced and talented members of local theatre groups, drawn by the desire to work creatively and innovatively in an intimate setting. The acting and production styles challenge both cast and audience to look afresh at well-known plays.
